Updated: May 29, 2021

"This Is Us" is an American drama television series created by Dan Fogelman that premiered on NBC on September 20, 2016. The series follows the lives and families of two parents, Jack and Rebecca Pearson, and their three children, Kate, Kevin, and Randall, in several different periods. The highly Emmy nominated show has tackled issues such as obesity, adoption, bisexuality, addiction, and mental health. Actor Sterling K. Brown portrays Randall Pearson, Jack and Rebecca's adopted son, and Kate and Kevin's adopted brother. Brown's character is an upperclassman politician and former businessman. Actress Susan Kelechi Watson portrays Beth Pearson, Randall's wife and a dance instructor.

The couple has three daughters, Tess, Annie, and Deja. Throughout the series, Randall's panic attacks and nervous breakdowns are showcased. This allows viewers to understand that anxiety should not be taken lightly. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health cases has risen at an alarming rate. In minority families, discussions about mental health and awareness can be uncomfortable. The narrative that therapy is only for those that have a mental illness is false. It is beneficial for everyone to go to therapy sessions at some point in their lives. It is normal. Due to the pandemic, we have all experienced depression, anxiety, or even suicidal thoughts.
